Zelle transfer limit guide [2024] (2024)

Zelle® is an online payment platform available through your bank or credit union, with over 2,100 participating banking apps offering Zelle as an easy and secure option to transfer your funds.¹

But are there any limits to how much you can send through Zelle? And can you receive as much money as you want? Read everything you need to know in our Zelle transfer limit guide.

How much money can you send through Zelle?

You can use the Zelle app to directly send money to other Zelle users. If you’re not using Zelle through your bank, you can send up to 500 USD per week and you can receive up to 5,000 USD a week.²

Factors influencing Zelle transfer limits

There are a few factors affecting how much you can safely transfer with Zelle. If you’re using Zelle through your bank or credit union, you’ll need to find out how much your bank will let you transfer, as different banks set different limits.

For example, Citi® lets existing customers transfer up to 2,500 USD per day, whereas Bank of America® lets you send up to 3,500 USD a day.³

Are there different limits for different types of Zelle transactions?

There are different limits for different types of Zelle transactions, whether you use Zelle through your bank or directly. For example, you can typically send less money than you can receive through the Zelle app.

If you choose to make a transfer using the Zelle app, you’ll also experience a different transfer limit than if you choose to transfer through one of Zelle’s partner banks, such as Chase® or Capital One®.

Your bank may set a different limit for personal or business transfers. For example, Chase customers with personal checking accounts can transfer up to 2,000 USD per day, but private client or business checking accounts can send up to 5,000 USD a day.³

Are Zelle transfer limits the same for sending and receiving money?

Zelle transfer limits differ depending on whether you’re sending or receiving money. If you want to send money through the Zelle app, you can only send a transaction to other Zelle users, and you’re limited to 500 USD per week.⁴ However, you can receive up to 5,000 USD.

If you still need to transfer more money, you may need to choose a different payment platform, such as Wise.

What happens if you exceed your Zelle transfer limit?
